About This City
Heber City was first settled in the mid 1800's by pioneers who were trying to venture North up Provo Canyon to farm the fertile mountian valley. Named after Heber C. Kimball, the settlers constructed the first homes into a fort to protect themselfs from Native Americans who already lived in the area. Around 100 - 300W and 200 - 500N. The settlers were criticized for choosing a climate that was too cold to farm and, a growing season that is that would be too short to provide large enough crops to support the settlers. Ultimately these critics were proven wrong.
Incorporated in 1889 Heber City was the first city to be created within Wasatch County. Today, Heber City is home to almost 8,000 residents. Heber Valley has become a destination stop for many Utahans for seasonal recreation. Also, many Utahans have a second home or cabin in Heber Valley.
Heber Valley is home to the Cross Country Ski Venue for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. A world class track. Its the highest evelation(around 5800ft) cross country ski track in North America and, has the most challenging course with it's elevation changes.
